AdSense customers get SEO advice
Google has been nudging its AdSense advertisers towards the SEO door with a set of tips to help customers improve their ranking in the organic search.
Ambroise Fensterbank, a Google Search Quality Evaluator, posted the guidelines on its AdSense blog, reminding advertisers that their sites didn't receive special treatment in organic search and that AdSense and Google organic search were independent of each other.
Fensterbank recommended users monitor the quality of links to and from their website, ensuring that they were likely to be useful to its visitors.
He also recommended structuring a website with a clear hierarchy, providing a sitemap and using Google's Webmaster Tools to find out how visitors arrived at the site.
The <title> tags should carry clear information for the user, he added, and ALT attributes should describe images appropriately.
Fensterbank also stressed the importance of regularly updating the site with fresh content and also warned users to ward off the SEO black-hat warlock by avoiding techniques designed to boost ranking quickly.
