Blogging blunders can blow SEO
A well-conceived blogspot can bolster your SEO and get your company shooting up the search rankings, but blogging slip-ups can quickly shatter your company's reputation and leave your marketing campaign in tatters.
A recent spate of blogging faux pas has demonstrated how black-hat tactics have merely drawn negative attention to companies manipulating apparently impartial blogs to enhance their reputation.
The Wall Street Journal recently exposed John Mackey, CEO of Texas-based grocer Whole Foods Market, who had been posing as consumer championing the company on a Yahoo Finance forum.
Mackey used the blog anonymously for eight years, praising Whole Foods while simultaneously slating its competitor Wild Oats.
Another high-profile case emerged earlier this month, involving two Burger King employees who were sacked for unauthorised blogging activity.
A Burger King executive is believed to have used his daughter's username to attack a migrant-worker rights movement that was embroiled in a dispute with the burger chain.
Some leading brands, such as Coca-Cola and Wal-Mart, have also been caught out for their involvement in use of a flog- a fake blog, supported by the company, which seems to be written by a fan of the company's products.
