Engine Optimisation Web Log (BLOG) | This News Blog is dedicated to bringing news, information and innovations targeting the Search Engine Optimisation industry.
Caffeine will keep Google rivals awake at nightGoogle, has released the first details of its new search engine, which has been nicknamed Caffeine. The new search engine will replace Google's existing one once testing has been completed and the company says it marks the first step in improving the speed, accuracy and comprehensiveness of search results. Industry experts say that Caffeine threatens to put Microsoft's new engine, Bing, in the shade. A leading search marketing specialist recently told the BBC that Google had talked about vertical specific searches while quietly doubling its speed and introducing real-time results and news feeds. He added that Bing was launched with a massive media budget, but presents itself as an alternative to something that users are still - for now - happy with. According to recent market research, Google remains the dominant force in the sector, accounting for more than 87% of the UK search market in 2008. However, in recent months, competition in the search engine market has increased. As well as Microsoft's Bing.com - which saw a tie-up between Microsoft and Yahoo - the computational knowledge engine Wolfram Alpha and a revamped Ask Jeeves have also been launched. Google is also facing competition from Facebook, which has just acquired FriendFeed, praised for its real-time search engine. However, Google's head of Webspam, Matt Cutts, has denied that Caffeine was launched in response to rivals and has been in development for many months. Comment:
