Google Suggest to go live
Searching on Google is about to get smarter as the internet giant is to roll out Google Suggest, a search feature that assists users by providing suggestions as they type their queries.
Google has been testing the function on Google Labs since 2004.
Yet it has been slow to catch up on rivals such as Yahoo!, who have been enhancing the search experience with this useful feature for some time.
Explaining why Suggest had been such a long time in coming, Google said that quality was very important and it wanted to make sure to evaluate and refine its algorithms to provide a good experience.
Google Suggest works in the same way as Yahoo! Search Assist by presenting a list of query ideas below the search box. Users can either select from one of the suggestions using the down arrow on their keyboard or continue to type in their own keywords as normal.
