Google approaching 75% market share
Google has hit yet another high, as the latest figures released by web analytics company Compete show that the search giant is increasing its market share.Proportionally, it is handling more of our searches, and if the trend continues it could be serving three quarters of all queries within just a few months.
Compete reckons that Google is now getting 71.5% of all searches, while its biggest rival Yahoo! has seen its slice of the pie reduce to just 13.3%.
Microsoft's suite of searches is snapping at the heels of the troubled number two player with its combined share currently sitting at 10.6%.
Many industry experts question whether this is a fair reflection of Microsoft's true market share as they do not consider its Live Search Club program, which offers prizes as an incentive to search, as a true search engine.
According to Compete, Live Search Club accounts for 2.6% of all searches.
And along with the recent launch of Live Search Cashback, for many it is a clear indication that Microsoft can only penetrate the market by buying its way.
