Google crowned UK's biggest brand
Google has just come out on top in a league table of the country's leading 500 brands, according to an annual survey carried out by the research organisation Superbrands. The internet giant leapfrogged Microsoft to head a list, whose top 50 companies have an average age of 90 years – an achievement all the more remarkable as it is the only company in the 50 to have come onto the scene since 1990.
The search engine company has only been around for ten years, but now leads a top ten line-up dominated by long-standing familiar superbrands, such as Rolls-Royce, British Airways and the BBC.
The results of the poll, which took the views of 1,500 professionals, show us the sheer extent to which Google has become a force to be reckoned with.
In his comments on the survey findings, chairman of the Superbrands Council, Stephen Cheliotis, said that British business opted for what it knew and trusted.
And heading towards economic slowdown, he said that this was only going to become more important.
