Google on top of the world
Google is top of a league table of the world's biggest brands for the second year running, in a survey conducted by global market researchers Millward Brown. The company, which is owned by the world's second-largest media and communications services group WPP, now estimates the value of Google at $86bn (£43bn).
The search giant has grown by 30% to head a list of 100 global brands, whose top 10 is dominated by technology companies, including Microsoft, China Mobile, IBM and Apple.
Millward Brown conducts annual research by tracking 50,000 brands across the globe. It compiles its yearly BrandZ top 100 listing by combining the financial performances of companies with their brand equity ratings gathered from a global survey of 100,000 consumers.
Global account director at Millward Brown, Peter Walshe, said that Google's rank had been driven by fantastic financial performance and equity value.
The findings follow hot on the heels of recent news that Google had just become the UK's top brand and is about to overtake ITV to become the country's leading advertiser.
