Google's stranglehold on world searches
New figures have confirmed Google’s global dominance as the leading search engine. The latest research from comScore has shown that the search engine is at least four times more popular than its nearest rival as the amount of global queries hit 61 billion for August.
There were more than 37 billion searches made using Google. And even if you take out the five billion searches through its video content sharing site YouTube, Google still had 24 billion more searches than Yahoo!
The full list is:
· Google - 37.1 billion
· Yahoo! - 8.5 billion
· Baidu.com - 3.3 billion
· Microsoft - 2.2 billion
· NHN - 2.0 billion
· eBay -1.3 billion
· AOL - 1.2 billion
· Ask - 743 million
· Fox - 683 million
· Lycos - 441 million
The figures also throw up an interesting insight into search habits across the globe.
Asia-Pacific accounted for a third of all global searches at 20.3 billion followed by Europe at 17.8 billion and North America at 16 billion.
But, interesting, Latin American had the highest number of searches per person at an average of 95.7.
