Google's global growth
Google has its sights set on expansion across the world which could see its payroll expand by as much as a third. The internet search company wants to increase its engineering teams in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
Its new head of engineering in Europe has been explaining the company’s plan. Nelson Mattos said he is aiming to grow Europe, Middle East and Africa, or EMEA as Google refers to it as.
He believes Google is not seen correctly in Europe and his impression is that Google is seen as a big US company that is out to make money.
Mattos added that there is a lack of understanding of how Google works and people do not understand the business model and the new computing environment.
Of the estimated 7,000 strong team of engineers, Google only has 500 in Europe and it wants this figure to rise significantly. Although it has not set a timetable as yet, industry insiders are predicting this could be within three years.
In unveiling its expansion plans, Google is keen to stress that it does not want to be seen as another aggressive American corporation.
