Google speeds up AdSense filtering
Google has responded to the concerns of AdSense publisher sites and announced that it is to improve the speed of its ad filters and introduce enhancements to its Ad Review Centre.
The move comes in the wake of the US presidential election, when website owners of participating sites complained to Google because they were unable to prevent political ads from popping up on their sites.
Website owners were concerned that the political ads suggested that they were advocating one candidate over another, when they actually had relatively little control over which ads appeared other than simply removing them altogether.
But for many websites, switching off a valuable revenue stream was not an option, so Google's decision to give publishers more ad control came as welcome news.
Google said that its ultimate aim was to slash the time for filters to take effect to under an hour.
It also announced improvements to its Ad Review Centre, which will give publishers ways to block entire categories of ads in addition to individual ads.
