Google to crawl dynamic URL's better!
The practice of rewriting dynamic URLs into static URLs could soon become a thing of the past, with Google advising webmasters to avoid reformatting dynamic URLs to make them look static.
Most large websites, such as online shops and blog sites, serve up content based on queries on their database using dynamic URLs.
However, many webmasters use tools to make the URLs appear static because they are concerned about the SEO implications of using dynamic addresses.
The issue has been subject to much debate over the years, as many in the industry were still concerned that search engines had difficulties crawling and mapping websites with dynamic URLs.
But in a new post on its Webmaster Central Blog, Google has dispelled the myth that dynamic URLs cannot be crawled.
Google suggested it may have had difficulty handling dynamic URLs in the past, but said it had made progress in the areas of analysing URL parameters and ranking of dynamic content.
Conversely, Google warned webmasters that if they tried to make their URLs look static, they could be giving the Googlebot problems and thereby doing more harm than good.
