If you want links ... you need pulling power
If you want to get websites to link back to you then you need pulling power. And that means applying many of the techniques for picking up girls to the art of link building.
SEOs across the world are beginning to liken great link builders with great pick up artists and one of them has even written a guide to picking up links with the dating game in mind.
I came across these tips from SEO blogger Ninja Jen:
· Avoid corny chat-up lines
When approaching webmasters for links, don't blow it with tired old phrases, such as 'link exchange' in your email subject lines. Be personal, research the website that you're targeting and tailor your approach.
· Choose the right partner
Don't go for the website surrounded by admirers desperately trying to get backlinks. Choose a site that wants you and needs your link.
· Don't look desperate
Instead, turn the tables and make it look as if you're doing them a favour. Look at their website and identify a problem where you can help. Ideally, it should be a broken link, because you'll be right there to step in with a suitable replacement.
· Have no fear
Finally, link building is hard work, so be prepared for setbacks and don't be afraid of rejection.
