Increasing search visibility on social media sitesApplying leverage to social media sites to increase search visibility is vital for SEOs - according to a leading social media consultant.
Muhammad Saleem looked at ways in which SEOs could generate long-term results of higher search ranking from link-building.
He noted that SEMs use social networking websites to great effect and short term campaigns can have a massive impact in a short space of time – but acknowledged that SEOs are in it for the long haul.
Saleem looked at different social networking sites to explore a good long-term source of traffic through higher search rankings and more search visibility.
He found it was easy to get on the front page of Digg and it results in hundreds of links - these increase SERPs, irrespective of how well a website generally ranked.
He found StumbleUpon’s social search upgrade combines the authority of Google rankings with the likes and dislikes of a network of friends on the social site, to provide cumulatively better and more visible search results.
Saleem concluded that Digg is the website which sends most traffic and helps improve a website’s search ranking through link building. But StumbleUpon and Del.icio.us, are probably more important, even though they don't always explicitly increase search ranking, because they implicitly increase it by making content more visible.
