Is it all about links?

Old school SEO's might be tempted to say an emphatic "yes", and to a degree they'd be right. However having your content around the internet, even if it doesn't provide links back, can still be significantly influential.

For example, say someone makes a search for your company name or brand and not only finds your site but also finds lots of other sites that have articles you have written. Doesn't that give the impression you are an expert in your field? Reinforcing why they should be dealing with you.

Another example might be a long tail search where an article you have written comes up in the rankings ahead of your site. The article carries your expert comment and URL, as such again, reinforcing your expertise and reputation.

None of this is new, offline PR Companies have been doing this for years.

So the next time you look at article syndication, consider the bigger picture, it's not all about the links!
