Make it SEO friendly from the start
Stop the insanity of making SEO an afterthought and integrate search engine optimisation into your website development cycle.
That's been a message that many SEO companies have been promoting for years, but now this message is being reinforced by Yahoo!, David Roth (Director of Search Engine Marketing), who is urging companies to align SEO with product development so that when they launch their website, it is already SEO friendly.
He said it was much cheaper and easier to build SEO into a development project, rather than to release it and retrofit it later. Yet web developers routinely ignored it by building and releasing SEO-unfriendly sites and promising to go back and fix them later.
But now, warned Roth, it was time to stop doing it.
Another problem with building a site and incorporating SEO later is the issue of getting somebody to implement the SEO recommendations.
All too often, explained Roth, the team that built the site in the first place would move on to new projects, leaving nobody around to implement significant site changes.
He said it was an all-too familiar story for a company to hire an SEO consultant, spending good money on getting a detailed set of correctly prioritised website enhancements, only to the waste time and money through its inability to carry out the recommendations.
The answer is simple, on site SEO should be done by the site developers, which makes the need for SEO Training followed by a strategic consultany for off site SEO more important than ever before.
