Most web campaigns delayed

New research has revealed that 70% of website-based marketing campaigns are not launched on time - despite awareness that delays can lead to a potential loss of new business leads and eroded customer satisfaction.

The alarming results by PK Data on behalf of WCM solutions provider SDL Tridion also found that nearly 60% of senior marketers acknowledge that their website is critical to their marketing strategy.

When discussing the impact of delays, 54% said they have a negative impact on new business inquiries, 35% think it impacts on web marketing budgets and 30% said it had a detrimental effect on brand image.

Three in four companies surveyed reported that they change their website content at least once a week and more than 40% do it on a daily basis. However, less than a third of these say that website publishing/updating deadlines are regularly met.

Marketers cite lengthy internal approval processes, IT department backlogs and the type of web content management (WCM) system they use as causes for delays.

Nearly half attributed delays to overloaded IT departments - which confirms that they are bogged down with web content requests and which could be more easily handled by marketing and communications departments.
