Search Engine Optimisation industry.
Age Old SEO First Response Goes Out The WindowOne of the first responses an SEO will make when faced with a potential new client, is a Page Rank check. It's quick, simple and gives you the first indication that a site may be banned from the Google Index. Seeing a site with PR 0 normally means a cache check, followed by a slow sinking into the hands.
But now it seems a PR 0 may not indicate a ban. A Google Groups thread shows a member that has watched their site drop from PR 4 to PR 0, without any noticeable change in rankings or traffic.
It is pointed out the loss of PR may be tied to the recent PR changes due to Google's crack down on paid links.
Admin Aaron is quick to point out the sponsored links at the bottom of her page and that a disclaimer and "no follow" tag should soon solve that.
"Anyhow, I would just move all the paid posts to a category "paid reviews", add a disclaimer to each saying, this is a paid review, then
nofollow the link to the company to not share any pagerank." So for anyone who has witnessed any similar occurances. As in a sudden disappearance of Page Rank, then please check to see if anything on your page can be construed as selling links.
It's not a big change in operations when it comes to our techniques, but an interesting find never the less.
