Engine Optimisation Web Log (BLOG) | This News Blog is dedicated to bringing news, information and innovations targeting the Search Engine Optimisation industry.
People want to do stuff in real timeGoogle co-founder Larry Page has admitted that the company has been losing out to Twitter in the race to meet web user's demand for real-time information. Meanwhile, the search engine's chairman and chief executive, Eric Schmidt, hinted that it could become a partner of the micro-blogging site. The admission highlights just how important real-time updates have become in the internet world, with Twitter becoming the third most visited social networking site in the US within three years by allowing its users to broadcast their thoughts, actions and news instantly. Google's search engine, in contrast, can take hours or even days to update. While this is usually not a problem as accuracy of results is more important than speed of updating, as the internet community comes to demand ever faster information Twitter has left Google in its wake. However Google is catching on fast and all web operators can learn from the success of Twitter by adopting systems to constantly update their sites. By generating fresh content on a regular basis, companies can ensure that visitors keep returning to their website whilst search engines such as Google will reward the constant updates with a higher ranking. As Page said at Google's recent Zeitgeist conference, people really want to do stuff real time. Comment:
