Reports in forums of PageRank update

There is much noise on the forums with webmasters reporting that Google's toolbar appears to have had an update yesterday.

We have also been seeing some significant changes in the SERPs which suggests there has also been an index update. It's not clear as yet if the SERPs changes will be sustained, or even what the cause of the changes are. There is speculation that there may have been a "spam filter" change, but as yet it is too early to speculate conclusively.
