Search engine buys mobile ad firm
The world's most popular search engine, Google, has agreed a USD 750 million deal to buy the mobile advertising firm AdMob.
The search engine giant hopes to take advantage of opportunities in the booming market for mobile devices after finalising the deal that has been paid for in stock.
AdMob specialises in selling adverts displayed on small screens - for example the iPhone or the Blackberry - and Google believes that mobile advertising has enormous potential.
Commenting on the deal, Susan Wojcicki, Google's vice-president of product management praised AdMob for its success and is reported as saying that the company is the quintessential Silicon Valley start-up, generating impressive year-on-year revenue growth.
She went on to say that she was excited to welcome the company's talented team to Google.
The new partners will now look to use new mobile technology to drive mobile advertising and AdMob founder Omar Hamoui said he believed people underestimate how important ads have been to funding the development of innovative content on the internet.
AdMob's goal has been to make it possible for developers and publishers to bring their products and ideas to mobile with the same business model, he added.
