Social media transforming business communication

A recent study by a leading marketing research company has found that three out of four firms believe that social media is changing the way companies communicate.

The research also revealed that the most common social media tactics include social network profiles, blogging and interacting with forums. Meanwhile the most effective were comments posted on customer review websites.

However, although engaging with customer review sites was also amongst the most cost effective tactics, it is the one that is least utilised by many companies.

Whilst reputation management is important to most companies, a quarter of the firms polled said they did not monitor social media commentary at all and a further 31% conducted regular monitoring but don't respond.

These figures show that it is not enough for companies to be aware of the latest marketing opportunities offered by the internet, they must actively engage with a whole host of social media if they are to be effective in raising their profile, improving their reputation and ultimately increasing sales.

By embracing social networking and consumer websites, businesses of all sizes can deliver positive messages to their key audiences at minimum cost.

It will also help to generate traffic to their own website, improve search engine optimisation and help firms to make the most of their initial investment in the internet.
