Engine Optimisation Web Log (BLOG) | This News Blog is
dedicated to bringing news, information and innovations targeting the
Search Engine Optimisation industry.
Spot the in-house SEOKevin Ryan from Search Engine Watch has been spending time with in-house SEOs in a bid to establish some of the problems and issues they face.
And, rather interestingly, it has enabled him to make some keen observations which have led him to identify four different problematic personalities.
Firstly there’s the Megalomaniac Entitlement Syndrome (MES). These are the people who Ryan identifies as having a passion for screwing up otherwise well-intentioned plans.
Then there’s the Ill-informed Executive Decision Maker (IEDM). Described as having enough information to be dangerous, IEDMs often make nutty decisions such as hiring friends or family because they ‘know something’ about SEO. They excel at delegating incompetence.
SCuM (Screwball Consultant Meltdown) are the ones who are often higher up the management food chain and are either duped by consultants with a great sales pitch or have consultants forced upon them by IEDM's.
Finally, there’s the Matt Cutts Hater/Manipulator (MCHMr). Pronounced M-C-hammer, these people spends all of their time reading Matt Cutts' blog and attempt to counter-engineer or circumvent the efforts of Googlers everywhere.
Ryan may have in-house SEOs pigeon-holed into four types, but as a postscript he also has a swipe at the in-house brand marketers and site owners who ask for advice on the best SEO software. Comment:
