Study finds search rankings impact on brandsNew research has highlighted just how important search engine rankings are to major brands as their position in listings can have a big impact on consumers’ perceptions - and ultimately purchasing intentions.
Enquiro Research reported that there is a significant correlation between search marketing efforts, brand affinity, brand recall and purchase intent.
Researchers also said that there was a significant lift in purchase intent when a brand occupies the highest paid and organic spots.
The eyetracking firm conducted studies using Honda as a test brand to establish reactions from consumers who were described as being at an early stage in the process of buying a new car.
As you would expect, the study emphasized the importance of occupying high positions in organic and paid for search.
It found that when Honda appeared at the top of the paid search and organic rankings, consumers were 16% more likely to think of the manufacturer’s cars as fuel efficient than when its brand didn't appear on the page.
Participants were also 42% more likely to recall Honda if it was highest in both listings, rather than just top in the organic rankings.
