Surfers warned about fake Google site
Website users are being warned about a fake version of the Google homepage which could lead unsuspecting victims to download malicious software.
Experts are urging surfers to look out for a couple of telltale signs where a malicious version of the search engine's homepage has been substituted for the real thing.
The first is that the fake site will tell the users to allow an add-on program to install itself so that Google can run properly. No add-on has ever been needed to enable Google's sparse home page to function correctly.
The other way to spot the fake site is a text link which reads "Advertise on this page." As anyone in the online community will know, Google has never allowed advertising on its home page.
It is highly unlikely that Google will permit this in the short terms, but most online experts agree that if it did, the top right section of Google.com could be the most valuable piece of advertising space on the internet.
