Surfing better than sexAdults prefer surfing the internet to having sex according the results of a new poll. One in three people surveyed by JWT said they have given up sex and friends in favour of going online. When asked how long they can go without using the internet, more than half said they could not last more than a few days and only 20% said they could go a week without logging on.
The survey was conducted by the advertising agency to see how technology was changing people's behaviour. It found 28% of those surveyed admitted spending less time socialising face-to-face with peers because of the amount of time they spent online. They agency’s survey also found that 20% said they spent less time having sex because they are online. JWT director of trend spotting, Ann Mack, said through the survey people told them how anxious, isolated and bored they felt when they were forced offline and they felt disconnected from the world, from their friends and family. According to Mack, the internet cuts into people’s quality time and it is taking away from offline activities such as having sex, socialising, watching television and reading newspapers and magazines.
