Engine Optimisation Web Log (BLOG) | This News Blog is
dedicated to bringing news, information and innovations targeting the
Search Engine Optimisation industry.
The perfect crimeYet again this week we have been approached to identify the cause of a severe loss of rankings with nothing obvious. Unlike the BlackHat Linking which manifested earlier in the week, this is something more sinister.
There exists a fraternity of webmasters out there that are still under the illusion that the fastest way to the top of the rankings is to steal content from someone who is already there and publish it, lock stock, on their sites. Reinforcing yet again that a little knowledge is dangerous. This is nothing new, since the birth of the "cut and paste" generation started, plagiarism is rife everywhere. This new attack, uses a redirect to cloak the content, the page that then comes up is blank, nothing on it and nowhere to go. Usually the motives behind plagerism in this field are to do with laziness and improving their rankings. This occassion it appears to be a blatent attack to distroy, using Google's page duplication policy, the rankings of the original site. It is becoming more and more important that companies spend effort ensuring that the content they provide is monitored for issues of plagiarism.
