Yahoo! adds Dynamic URL Rewriting Tool
Yahoo! has added a new feature to its website which will enable users to let it know about dynamic URLs that may be creating duplicate content. Users also have the opportunity to change the URLS.
The new Dynamic URL Rewriting feature allows webmasters to view potential duplicate content issues and have Yahoo! rewrite those URLs at the index level.
The website allows the user to define the primary URL and all others can be dynamically rewritten to the primary URL.
Items such as session ids, tracking parameters, format modifiers and other parameters that do not change the content of the page, but yet create a new unique looking URL can be amended.
The introduction of the new service will be welcomed by SEOs as duplicate content is one of the industry’s hot topics.
The good folk at searchengineland explain how easy it is to change a URL:
If you set up a tracking URL for a banner ad such as searchengineland.com/?ad_id=1234, which is basically a duplicate URL for searchengineland.com, you can tell Yahoo! that anything that conforms to the "ad_id" parameter following the ? will be a duplicate URL to the primary and Yahoo! will rewrite the URL to default to the primary.
