Yahoo jumps ahead of rivals with Twitter searches
Yahoo has become the latest company to jump on the Twitter bandwagon in an effort to attract more users of its internet search engine.
The company follows in the footsteps of Google and Microsoft by announcing plans to utilise tweats in its searches, but says it will be the first to include them in results.
Yahoo is relying on Twitter to highlight the latest news about specific subjects and when a user enters a search request tied to breaking news, the search engine will top the results page with four tabs. One of these will offer direct links to news sites, one for photos, one for video and the other one dedicated to Twitter.
The move is the latest sign of Yahoo's resolve to spice up its search results after losing ground to Google and Microsoft, which has seen in a slump in its financial fortunes.
Ironically, Yahoo will need to rely on Microsoft for most of the technology powering its search engine. Microsoft itself is currently listing Twitter results in a special section of its search engine, Bing.
The world's biggest search engine, Google, plans to include Twitter's chatter in its search results, but has yet to reveal full details of its plans.
